All about Gua Sha

You have probably already seen your favorite celebrities, influencers and Tik Tok stars using a smooth, angled stone on their face to get a snatched jaw line! Thanks to social media, the Gua Sha has gained a lot of popularity in the recent months but long before it became a trend, it was a major part of an ancient Chinese healing technique for thousands of years. Now, you may ask – does it really work or is it just another aesthetic Instagram facial tool? Well, let’s find out!!

Gua Sha is the name of a very old, natural practice that primarily involves scraping your skin with a massage tool, that is, a Gua Sha ( it is the tool as well as the practice ) According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, “chi” or “qi” is the energy that flows within our body. The movement of this energy should be proper and free to ensure good health and well being. When obstructed, it can result in pain and tension between the joints and muscles. Hence, the basic aim of Gua Sha is to relieve this obstructed energy and facilitate it’s movement.

The practice has been found helpful in alleviating pain as well as in improving blood circulation and flow.

The practice of Gua Sha can benefit your body in multiple ways. Scraping it gently on your skin with different angles and pressures can improve the circulation of blood and fluids. This flow of blood to the surface of the skin renews skin cells, returns vitality to the face and gives a bright, glowing complexion. Using deep pressure with a Gua Sha also relieves tension between the muscles and joints, thus, ensuring their smooth functioning. Moreover, it can also help reducing puffiness, fine lines, inflammation and dark circles! You have already seen people using a Gua Sha for lifting their face and getting a sculpted, contoured jawline. Worth the hype, isn’t it?

Jade – Jade is the most popular gemstone used for Gua Sha. It is said to have the ability to enhance qi energy which is very similar to that of our body. This is the reason why it was traditionally stored in silk lined boxes. Jade is naturally cooler and when scraped against the skin, relaxes the muscles. If your goal is lifting, contouring and skin clarity, go for it! .

Rose Quartz – This is the second most popular material used for Gua Sha. A beautiful, pink gemstone – it is believed to align and open the heart chakra while also reducing tension. It was traditionally associated with love and is best suited for people with sensitive or acne prone skin. Keep it in the freezer for a soothing effect and added benefits!.

Amethyst – This unique, purple gemstone is loaded with negative ions that contribute to it’s anti-inflammatory properties. Traditionally used by Shamans, it is considered to be close to meditation as it enhances a person’s sense of spirituality and clarity of mind. If you have skin redness or inflammation, this is a great option for you!

Winged Shaped – this looks similar to a bird’s wing because of the three arches on the side. It is usually small in size and can easily fit inside your palm. It best suitable for smaller areas such as forehead, chin and jawline.

Dolphin Shaped – this is one of the most popular Gua Sha shapes. It resembles a dolphin jumping in the air when held by it’s side (hence the name) It is generally bigger in size and has a firm grip which makes it suitable for wider areas of the body such as thighs, back and glutes.

Spoon Shaped – This one is quite unique. It is usually held like a pen and has a unique purpose. It works best for treating acupressure points on the face and neck and helps in lifting the face, relaxing the forehead and tightening the jawline!

We at Lamina Care, are super excited to announce the launch of Acupressure spoon Gua Sha in two variants – Jade and Rose Quartz, designed specifically to target all your acupressure points on the face and neck. The unique spoon shape is perfect for reaching smaller areas as well as the areas harder to reach such as around the eyes! Exciting, isn’t it?

Our latest launch is different from a normal spoon Gua Sha in terms of its shape and feel. What makes it distinct is the fact that unlike other Gua Sha spoons, it does not have a flat top and bottom! The holder is bulged and rounded for a better grip and utility while the top of the spoon has a three-dimensional, mountain shape for better compression and feel! This makes it super convenient to use even for people with acne conditions and rosacea as the movement of the tool can be easily controlled.
